Under the bright lights!

I'm still on general surgery and I'm having a blast!!  I love being in the OR, assisting with all kinds of surgeries, and seeing almost instant results to treating a patient's problems! I've even gotten used to leaving for the hospital at 5am and not coming home until well after 5pm!  In fact, I just realized I it's 9pm and past my bedtime...my 4 am alarm singing "Good morning" is going to be here in no time. :0
BUT I wanted to send a quick post between studying current surgery techniques to say hi and show a few pictures!
A few weeks ago Jeremy and I got to attend Ellie and Cora's school recital.  Cora was hidden between some tall boys so I didn't get any good pics, but Ellie was up front and center in her precious lady bug costume so I got a few really cute pics of her.  Poor little Ellie was really sick last week and had to spend Friday night in the hospital!  I'm so thankful she is feeling better now.

The beautiful Dunaja family:

This is a random picture I found from our Florida trip with Dad and Steph to the race.   Maybe some day I'll have time to go through the millions of pictures I took that weekend!

Happy Thursday!  I hope you are having a wonderful week!

Fairy Festival

I've been hearing about the Fairy Festival since the first time I visited Glen Rock.  This year we happened to be around while it was going on so Jeremy and I walked through so I could see what it was like...they weren't kidding!  Some CRAZY people go to the fairy festival!  And they really believe there are fairies flying around among us.  I've never seen so many adults wearing wings.
I really wanted one of these cool masks to wear to work...

You can never start too early at the fairy festival!  The guy below is covered in greenish brown something and carrying a poor little baby. The lady at the front could have killed someone with her crazy spiky wings.

Another guy covered in green.  Quite clever with the "yellow paiges" though.
Random bee hives.  I kinda almost flipped out having to walk by all those buzzing killers!

 Beef anyone?
I've also never seen so many women not wearing bras.  Or so many hairy armpits (on women!)...
Not sure what this guy was doing but he was talking gibberish the whole time!

This young genius got tattoo wings so he wouldn't have to worry about bringing the attach on kind.  Must be how he got the lovely girl next to him...
People were bathing/playing/dancing/i don't want to know what in the river as you walked in.  There were little mobiles with weird symbols and strings that had something to do with catching fairies I think.  Okay maybe not catching them since these people are all about love, but they were all over the place nonetheless.
I kinda wanted to go in this secret tent to get my very own pocket fairy but I was too tall.  I like the mushroom table and chairs.  I think there are fairies there drinking tea but I guess I'm not a big enough believer to see them.  Forgot my fairy dust...
I was far too scared to enter the dark fairie realm...I didn't realize you can spell fairy "fairie" but evidently you can at the fairy/fairie festival.
Anyways, one reason I'd heard about the Fairy Festival is because it's at Spoutwood Farms- one of the places Jeremy worked as a kid.  He planted this vineyard!
They were selling lots of awesome homemade stuff...Brian and Amy, I got the pink shawl to wear to your wedding.  It's made of all natural all organic all green something so nothing was harmed in it's making.  I figured you'd appreciate that.

We brought Lucy along with us but I can't believe we forgot her wings!!
This green guy is the man in charge.  Mr. Spoutwood farms 21st annual Fairy Festival himself.  Jeremy said he smelled like weed. I think that helps with the seeing fairies business.

Jeremy helped farm this land so I made him take a picture.  He's such a good sport! :)

So anyway, my first trip to the fairy festival was a success- I saw enough crazy people for some great entertainment and obviously blog worthy pictures.  In other news, Lucy got a haircut and is super soft and clean.  She was so tired after all the adventures yesterday that she was a perfect angel at the groomer.  Not that she's ever anything but an angel of course.
That's all for now folks....happy Sunday!

Open Heart!

As you know I like posting in pictures, but don't worry by the title...I didn't post a picture of the heart!  :) This month I am on an elective- it can be with any doctor, anywhere, so I am fortunate enough to spend the month with my dad doing cardiovascular surgery!!
Today my dad had an open heart surgery to do-a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and I got to help!!  How cool is that?!?!
I got to feel blood pulsing through the aorta and hold the heart as it beat in her chest!  I saw the dark red blood coming through the tubes out of the heart and the bright red oxygenated blood going back in.  I got to see up close the teenie-tiny little needle and the thread that was thinner than a hair that my dad so skillfully and seemingly easily sewed into the heart.
It was a really exciting and surreal thing- to be scrubbed in for surgery, standing opposite my dad over the patient's open chest...to have my dad teaching me how to hold the tools right, to explain what he was doing and why, and being patient enough to show me how to suture- it was incredible!!!
How was your Monday? :)
